Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship team AmDTuning.com has become the second squad from the country's biggest race series to confirm its intention to enter the Renault UK Clio Cup in 2015, part of an expanded motorsport programme next year for the West Thurrock outfit.
Having achieved its maiden podium finish in the BTCC with former Renault UK Clio Cup Champion Dave Newsham at Knockhill in August, the Shaun Hollamby-led outfit is now striving to make grand strides next year.
This week’s confirmation of AmDTuning’s 2015 plans, where the team is also seeking to expand its presence on the BTCC grid to two cars, follows the announcement in the summer from fellow touring car squad Team BMR Restart which has confirmed a four-car Clio Cup presence for next year.
Since its arrival in the BTCC in 2010, AmDTuning.com has become firmly established as a touring car mainstay and has fielded several former Renault UK Clio Cup Champions including Newsham, Tom-Onslow-Cole and Martin Byford.
“It’s exciting for us to be moving into the Renault UK Clio Cup”, said Hollamby, “The grid numbers are set to rise next year in what will be the second season for the new car and we are seeking to speak to people who are interested in racing in the series and going for the title in 2015.
“You only have to look at the drivers who have come through Clios, including Dave [Newsham] and our former driver Tom Onslow-Cole, to see that it is a real proving ground for people looking to make it into touring cars. Our plans are all down to the fact the BTCC package is the strongest there is in UK motorsport and there is no better place for us to showcase what AmDTuning.com can do.”
In the 40th anniversary season of Renault UK motorsport this year, the latest fourth generation racing Renault Clio has proven to be a fantastic addition to the championship with sensational action provided throughout the 2014 campaign so far.
