The WP Racing fuelled British Superbike championship have landed in Almeria, Spain to begin pre-championship testing with defending champion Shane Byrne in action over a two day period.
Byrne was keen to get on track completing 40 laps in some unfavourable conditions on day one to get his testing underway in order to help his PBM Kawasaki team continue with developments for the 2015 season.
Byrne said: "It was great to get back out on track today on the PBM Kawasaki. The conditions weren't favourable but we did get through some good work as a team and I have also been working on my riding style too. You have to keep constantly improving and I have been trying a few different things out myself as a rider. I did 40 laps today and we ticked boxes, which is what this first test is all about. We blew off the cobwebs today and had fun doing some laps again after being off the bike for a few months.”
The second day of testing started with better conditions and the defending Champion wasted no time in getting back on track to build on the opening day's progress.
Byrne said: "This test has ticked every box in terms of what we have needed to achieve. To have a test at the beginning of February, with two days’ worth of work completed, is really positive and I couldn't be happier.
At one point I came up rapidly on some Moto3 riders, overtook the three of them, and I slightly missed my braking point. I had my foot down and had a bit of a moment, but it was all cool in the end. It was interesting sharing the track with a lot of the top riders from the Moto 2 and 3 World Championships and seeing how hard they ride.”
Byrne will be looking to break records once again as he embarks on a fifth championship title in the 2015 British Superbike championship which begins Easter weekend (4th-6th April).
