The final round of the 2013 ACU GT Cup took place at Culham this weekend and TM UK's with fuel and lubricant support from WP Racing, Jim Davies, put on yet another master-class in 125cc racing taking his TM machine to 5 victories from 5 starts and taking the crown as the 2013 125cc Champion. A massive 'well done' to Jim who thoroughly deserved to take the crown this year with a pretty much faultless season, incredible pace and commitment to his racing and finally, for being a gentleman of the sport who has quite rightly earned himself much admiration in the paddock from both the organisers and the competition alike, top man.
Joining Jim this weekend in the 125cc class was fellow TM rider Chubbie Hammond who also showed a good turn of speed and proved once again that he has the pace to run at the sharp end. With 5 races over the two days it was a busy weekend for the TM UK crew but nevertheless the team united, as always, came away with an incredible set of results for their efforts.
With Jim setting the fastest time in qualifying and Chubbie, not far behind in third, all bode well for a good weekend of 125 2-stroke competition. Jim took 3 hole-shots out of 5 starts and lead from start to finish, in the other two races he soon charged to take command at the front and yet again disappeared into the distance to take the maximum points and extend his already uncatchable championship points advantage. Young-gun, Chubbie, was not so fortunate on the starts and had to work through the traffic, riding well and with good pace Chubbie pushed through the pack to come away with a 7/5/3/3/3 scorecard, these results gave the TM pairing first and third overall for the weekend allowing both TM riders to step onto the podium.
Running a guest entry in this event for the TM UK team was 12 year old Callum Gasson, debuting on a big wheel TM 85cc machine the Bristol based rider showed some incredible speed, but some small mistakes leading to some minor crashes on the 'large' machine cost Callum dearly and did not do his true pace any justice. Callum ended the weekend with a 14/21/8/18/8 scorecard after setting the 4th fastest time in qualification and with a 'fully committed' holeshot in the final race of the day.
Well done boys.
