Jazeman Jaafar (Carlin) has been named as the first annual Mobil Service Centre Master of the Year after a tantalising close final vote count on the Mobil Service Centre Facebook page.
The young Malaysian driver, who was runner up in this year’s Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series, edged ahead of fellow British F3 competitor, Spike Goddard (T-Sport) in the final minutes of voting.
Each weekend throughout the season a Mobil Service Centre Master was selected with the ten weekend winners going head to head for public votes. The public vote was promoted through a campaign in Autosport and WP Group’s social media pages during October.
Amazingly votes have been logged from around the globe, with the Mobil Service Centre’s Facebook album capturing over 6,600 likes in two weeks. This year’s winner will take away £5,000 in WP Motorsport race fuel for their team’s 2013 British F3 season as well as receiving the inaugural Mobil Service Centre Master of the Year trophy.
Jaafar drove an outstanding season in his third year in British F3, the top single-seater category in Britain which is proudly sponsored by Mobil Service Centre. British F3, dubbed the ‘university’ in motorsport, has been the breeding ground for many current and past Formula 1 stars such as Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen, Rubens Barrichello, and in recent years, Sergio Perez, Heikki Kovalainen, Daniel Ricciardo, Jaime Alguesuari and Jean Eric Vergne.
Jaafar earned his Mobil Service Centre Master of the Weekend honors at the penultimate event of the season; Silverstone. Achieving one win and two podium finishes allowed him to regain the Championship points lead with only one event left. His calm, clean racing and outstanding effort to improve were all commented on by the Mobil Service Centre judges when selecting him as the Award winner.
Darren Borras, Commercial Director of WP Group commented, “This year’s partnership with British GT and F3 has had many positive benefits, it’s been a great opportunity for us to publicise the great work that the Mobil Service Centre garages do as well as the brand. We were also thrilled to be able to give the inaugural winner of the Master of the Year award the support for next season. Like its product, Mobil 1, the Mobil Service Centre is proud to offer this extra support to the deserved winner, which reflects our brand and our service ethic.”
On finding out he’d won the prestigious award, Jaafar was equally thrilled, "I feel great winning this award. Having been both selected during the season and now voted for by the public. I would like to thank each and everyone who has supported me, especially our Championship sponsor and the people behind the award. It's been a memorable journey."
